Interview Format for SAU Urology Match

Jun 18, 2024 | Announcements

SAU Members and Prospective Applicants,

The Executive Board has engaged in robust discussion in order to consider all formats and approaches available for residency applicant interviews. Among other factors, the board has considered surveys of our membership and past applicants, as well as submitted comments. Our membership and Board are fully engaged and committed to the best possible solution.

Every residency program has its unique strengths and culture. Urology residency programs should evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of interview formats in their unique context to determine what is best for their program.

As such, the SAU in accordance with the annual membership survey results and AAMC recommendation, will allow virtual, in-person, and hybrid interview formats for the Urology Match.

The principles of the SAU urology match should be maintained regardless of which format is chosen.

Key principles include:

  • Interview offers must be date specific — programs must have a guaranteed spot for every applicant on the date they are being offered an interview.
  • Applicants must be given advanced notice about the interview format.
  • Programs MUST post on their website which interview format they have chosen.
  • Programs MUST share with SAU which interview format they have chosen.
  • Programs MUST notify applicants of their interview format at the time that an interview invitation is extended.
  • Every effort should be made to give all applicants a fair and similar experience regardless of interview format.
  • Applicants should not be judged or evaluated differently based on the format in which they are interviewed, particularly in instances of hybrid interviews.
  • Simultaneous interview release, flush day, and preference signaling will remain the same as last year.

We look forward to a successful and smooth Urology Match cycle.
