New SAU Awards to honor exceptional faculty, residents, and program coordinators committed to education.
The application window closed October 1.
Award Guidelines:
Award Overview: The SAU Faculty Educator Award aims to honor faculty members who significantly advance urologic education at their institution and beyond. This award recognizes the dedication and contributions of educators in the field of urology.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates must be faculty educators who devote a significant portion of their time to medical education in urology, including but not limited to Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Candidates can be self-nominated or nominated by others.
- Candidates must be full-time faculty members with at least 5 years of practice, currently affiliated with an SAU member institution.
- Candidates must attend the SAU Winter meeting and deliver a 15 min talk
Selection Process:
- Applications will be reviewed by the SAU Award Committee and Board of Directors using a standardized rubric.
Award Overview: The SAU Resident Education Award aims to recognize residents who make substantial contributions to urologic education at their institution and beyond, as well as those who act as outstanding role models for their students and peers.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a PGY3 resident or higher at an SAU member institution.
- Candidates should be actively engaged in initiatives that substantially enhance urologic education both within their institution and beyond.
- Ideal candidates for this award are residents who have made a notable impact on their colleagues and/ or medical students in terms of clinical, academic, and/or professional development.
- Nominations can be submitted by the candidates themselves or by others.
- Candidates must attend the SAU meeting at the AUA to accept their award
Selection Process:
- Applications will be reviewed by the SAU Award Committee and Board of Directors using a standardized rubric.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Nominees must meet these eligibility criteria:
- The candidate should currently be the Program Coordinator of record for a Urology GME program and have served as a program coordinator for at least five years in total. The experience need not be five consecutive years nor with the same program.
- Previous recipients are not eligible.
- The candidate must be an ACURE member and affiliated with an SAU member institution.
- The candidate must attend the SAU winter meeting to accept their award
Selection criteria:
The nomination letters must document examples of the following:

- Ways in which the coordinator has contributed to the improvement of the program
- The coordinator’s ability to work collaboratively with the residents, program director, associate program director, chairperson, other coordinators, other programs, and other GME staff.
- The coordinator’s demonstration of professionalism and interpersonal communication skills
- The coordinator’s participation and involvement in GME activities and committees within the institution as well as at the regional and national level
- Work the coordinator has done to promote excellence in graduate medical education outside of the training program
